Avatar: The Way of Water has taken the box office by storm. The sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time has now crossed $600 million at the domestic office and is on pace to surpass Avengers: Infinity War , out today, January 25, as the No. 5 worldwide box office of all time. To become the highest grossing film ever.
Waterway has now grossed $602 million in the US and $1.444 billion from international markets for a global total of $2.046 billion.
Breaking it down by region, The Way of Water is now the 13th highest-grossing film of all time in the United States and could pass The Incredibles 2 ($608.6 million) to reach No. 12. Worldwide, The Way of Water is in fifth place, as noted, and has a chance to climb past Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.07 billion) to take the No. Reach 4.
If that happens, writer-director James Cameron will have three of the top four highest-grossing films of all time. 2009’s Avatar ($2.92 billion) is No. 1 of all time, with 1997’s Titanic ($2.194 billion) in third place. Avengers: Endgame ($2.8 billion) is currently the No. 2 film.
Thanks to the huge success of The Way of Water at the box office, Cameron has. Moving forward with its planned sequels, starting with Avatar 3 in 2024.. That was the movie. Filming has already been done, and parts of Avatar 4 have also been shot.
