Dramatic footage shows the moment skiers were buried under an avalanche in the Austrian Alps on Christmas Day.
Austria’s defense ministry said around 3pm local time (2am UK time) 200 people and eight helicopters were involved in a search and rescue operation after an avalanche plunged down a mountain in the Zers am Arlberg ski area. were involved in the operation.

But in the early hours of Boxing Day, police revealed that only four people were buried after being buried in an avalanche. All survived despite injuries.

Local ski instructor Stephen Albrecht captured the moment of the avalanche on video and said he had “never seen an avalanche this big”.

“I immediately decided to make a video… but I didn’t know how bad the avalanche would be.”
Mr Albrecht said he and his colleagues rushed down to help search for victims.
He added that rescue personnel and helicopters reached immediately.
