Kansas man dies after being shot by dog in truck, police say | US News

In the US state of Kansas, a dog was killed by a rifle shot from the back of a truck.

The victim, whose name has not been released by police, was found in the front passenger seat, shot in the back.

Emergency services were called and CPR was administered to the 30-year-old but he could not be saved and died at the scene near Gewda Springs.

Another person in the driver’s seat was found unharmed, Wellington Fire Department Chief Tim Hay said.

Officials added that it appears the accident was hunting-related, with equipment found in the back of the vehicle.

“A canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the rifle, causing the weapon to discharge,” the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to local media.

“The firing round hit the passenger, who succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

“The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary investigations indicate that this is a hunting-related accident.”

The owner of the truck and dog was not immediately known and an investigation is underway.
