Polar bear kills woman and boy in a remote village in Alaska | World News

A woman and a boy have been killed by a polar bear in a remote village in western Alaska.

State troopers said they received a report of the attack at 2:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. UK time) on Tuesday at the western tip of the Seward Peninsula in Wells, local news station KTUU reported.

“Preliminary reports indicate that a polar bear entered the community and chased several residents,” troopers wrote.

“Bear fatally attacks adult female and juvenile male.”

Troopers said the bear was shot dead by a local resident after it attacked the couple.

The names of the two people who died have not been released, troopers say they were working to notify family members.

The dispatch said troopers and state Department of Fish and Game personnel were planning to travel to Wells one time because of the weather.
