Teenage mother and 10-month-old baby among six killed in California shooting | US News

A teenage mother and her 10-month-old baby were shot in the head in a “murderous manner” that left six people dead in Central California.

Authorities received a call at 3:38 a.m. Monday that multiple shots had been fired at a residence in Goshen, a town about 170 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

A gunman fired several rounds into the skull of 17-year-old Alyssa Praz and killed her child, Nicholas, as they tried to flee the attack, police said.

The other four victims, all related, ranged in age from 19 to 72, including Ms Perez’s grandmother, who was shot in her sleep.

Police are investigating whether a gang or drug cartel targeted the family and are looking for two suspects.

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said a forensic investigation revealed Ms. Perez tried to run away but the gunman stood over her and fired several shots at her.

He said: “It is very clear that this family was a target.

“None of this was accidental… it was deliberate, deliberate and horrific,” he said at a news conference on Tuesday.

He added that the gunmen had “no reason” to kill the young mother and her child.

Authorities said they were looking for two suspects and offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

Mr Boudreaux said the house was linked to gangs and drugs, but on Tuesday he walked back his earlier comments that the violence was possibly a cartel attack, saying investigators were still looking into that possibility. are

The sheriff cited past gang activity at the home, but said not everyone shot was a drug dealer or gang member.

Samuel Pina, Ms Perez’s grandfather, said: “I can’t wrap my head around what kind of monster would do that.”

He said the teenager and her child were staying with her father’s family and her father’s uncle, her father’s cousin, her grandmother and her maternal grandmother were also killed.

Three survived the attack.

The teenager, her grandmother and child are among the victims who are believed to be innocent.

The other four victims were: Rosa Perez, age 72, Eladio Perez, Jr., age 52, Jennifer Anilla, age 49 and Marcos Perez, age 19.

Three people survived the attack and will be interviewed by the police.

Mr. Boudreaux said Mr. Perez Jr., a convicted felon, was not an “initially intended target” and declined to elaborate.

Goshen is a central California community of about 3,000 residents in the agricultural San Joaquin Valley.
