Figuring out what is and isn’t on Netflix at any given time can be difficult. The Lord of the Rings trilogy hasn’t been available on the popular streaming service for a few years now, but Netflix subscribers rejoice, because the return of the king is just around the corner.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy, including The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, returns to Netflix on February 1, the streaming service announced today on Twitter.

All three films have been on Netflix at different times. Reportedly never at the same time. The films have been pulled from the service entirely since March 2020–just a few months before appearing on the then-new HBO Max streaming service. Lord of the Rings distributor New Line Cinema is a Warner Bros. Discovery studio, so it made sense that they’d want one of their biggest film series on the service for their first film.

There’s no word yet on whether Netflix will only host standard editions of movies, or extended editions as well. Both editions of HBO Max are currently available. 2022 Lord of the Rings Show, Circles of powerMeanwhile, was produced by Amazon and is a Prime Video exclusive.
